From the recording Here's to You

Lyrics

The ad caught my attention
A new software gizmo
Just what I need, it’s guaranteed
To streamline work flow

So I went online, paid my dime
Completed the download
But I wasn’t done, the app wouldn’t run
Cause my OS was too old

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
I should have learned by now
Don’t fall under the spell of new whistles and bells
If it ain’t broke . . . don’t fix it!

Had to upgrade system software
The new feature was looking great
But then I found I need a workaround
For my old apps to operate

Had to return to the app store
Bought another program there
That should enable my machine
To run legacy software

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
Don’t listen to the hype
Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it will do
If it ain’t broke . . . don’t fix it!

“Disc full” error message
Need more data space
So back to the store, bought storage galore
Put a new drive into place

But initialization failed
Corrupted file somewhere
Troubleshooting anew, it was all I could do
To keep from tearing out my hair

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
Can’t argue with success
Don’t give in to a silly whim
If it ain’t broke . . . don’t fix it!

Finally got the system working
Running programs old and new
Hundreds of dollars and dozens of hours
Were spent for this debut

You’d think I’d be jumping for joy
But I can’t celebrate
After all the time and effort
The improvement’s not that great

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
It’s like walking in quicksand
Take one step, there’s no turning back
If it ain’t broke . . . don’t fix it!
